Koch Internship Program (KIP)

As an inaugural FIU Hamilton Scholar, I was given the opportunity to pursue an internship in Washington, D.C. I was accepted into the Koch Internship Program (KIP) and through KIP was hired by Young Voices, a non-profit talent agency and PR firm, as a public relations intern. As a KIP scholar, I developed a capstone project over a 10-week period. I met with my KIP colleagues and KIP mentor once a week we provided obtained feedback about the capstone projects each of us was working on. As a KIP fellow, I had hands-on job experience that led me to work on a cause that would empower social change and make a positive contribution to my community.

My capstone project for the Koch Internship Program dealt with the safety and well-being of foster youth in Florida during an extreme event or natural disaster. I based my project on formatting a simulated policy proposal and researching different members of congress who are on congressional committees that aid in protecting and ensuring foster youth are properly taken care of.
